About us
African Care ry is a multicultural non-governmental organization founded in 2001, which aims to strengthen the position and opportunities of women in particular, both in Finland and Somalia. The organization was founded by women with an African background who have worked in the social and health sectors.
African Care organises group activities to strengthen the health, well-being and inclusion of immigrants in East Helsinki. The organisation also supports young people living between two cultures and trains professionals and immigrants on integration, multiculturalism and the sexual and reproductive health.
The organisation has been active in development cooperation in Somalia since 2005. Projects have supported Somali women’s small business activities, improved sexual and reproductive health, reduced child and maternal mortality and strengthened women’s political participation. Currently, African Care is working in Somalia through a maternity clinic and education project, which aims primarily to provide women in the Afgooye region with antenatal counselling, safe delivery and postnatal support.
African Care works extensively with various women’s and immigrant organisations, social and health professionals and educational institutions. Find out more about our networks here.
