The maternity clinic provides a good start in life

The Afgooye maternity clinic, supported by African Care, is the only free health service in the region. Women come from a long distance to visit the clinic, especially when there are complications during pregnancy or childbirth. Poverty- and conflict-stricken Somalia is one of the most dangerous places in the world to give birth. The lack of public health care means that most babies are born at home with the help of untrained village midwives. Thanks to the clinic, more and more mothers and babies are surviving difficult births. The number of babies born each year at the clinic has increased year on year.

The clinic also trains village midwives to identify high-risk pregnancies and refer mothers to the clinic in time. The clinic also provides health education and works to eradicate the tradition of mutilation.

We need donors to keep the clinic running. As a godparent of the clinic, you will support this important work in the long term with a monthly amount that suits you.

Twice a year, we send a newsletter to the godparents, informing them about the results of the maternity clinic and education project, as well as the clinic’s statistics. As a godparent, you will therefore receive regular updates on the activities of the clinic and where your valuable support is being used.
