The purpose of the\u00a0project is to provide local women a good understanding of women&#8217;s rights and skills to influence and participate in decision making as well as in peace promotion.\u00a0The project focuses on local standpoint since\u00a0it is the local reality that has the biggest influence to women&#8217;s everyday lives. In the long run, the project strives to increase gender equality and democracy in Somalia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-703\" src=\"https:\/\/www.africancare.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/DSC005391-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"DSC00539\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/>\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-698\" src=\"https:\/\/www.africancare.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/DSC00208-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"DSC00208\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The project begun as a pilot in 2014 with training\u00a0seminars and planning the content of the following three years. 15 of the women participating in the training during the pilot project were chosen to work as focal points in different\u00a0towns. Focal points are\u00a0responsible for initiating local women&#8217;s groups and educating them about women&#8217;s rights and women&#8217;s participation in decision making. The women&#8217;s groups will carry out local activities, which include meeting with the local authorities, the elders and religious leaders.
